Fittler welcomes back two familiar faces

NSW coach Brad Fittler has rushed Dale Finucane and Angus Crichton back into his Blues squad ahead of State of Origin game two next Sunday.

With lock Jake Trbojevic out injured (hip/glute) for the upcoming Suncorp showdown, Finucane - who was looked over for the series opener - has earned an immediate recall to Origin football. To date, he has played four games for NSW.

Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy publicly backed Finucane to earn a representative spot based on his scintillating form at club level. And it appears Fittler is in agreeance.

Meanwhile, Roosters back-rower Angus Crichton is back in a blue jersey, having missed Origin I through suspension.

Dale Finucane and Angus Crichton.

He has been in outstanding form this season and was ably covered in the series opener by Tariq Sims.

"Angus has done a great job for us in the past. He was one of the best players," Fittler told Nine News. "He can play on the middle or edge.

"Dale is always someone you want in your squad because he's so professional and everyone watches him and learns."

Payne Haas is expected to be promoted to the run-on side in lieu of Trbojevic, with Crichton and Finucane to fight for a spot on the bench.

"Yeah it's exciting, I've just come down from the Sunny Coast. So I'm excited, we will see what happens," Finucane said.

Rookie bench forward Liam Martin has retained his spot despite a week of uncertainty around his position in the squad.

Fittler named an extended squad in alphabetical order on Sunday night with Crichton and Finucane among the names.
